SMS ECO (e )colours v3, sRGB format for professional brand - web and app design (free of charge)

The following colours are a version of our palette made especially for printing on off-white, uncoated paper. These colours are very appropriate for environmentally concious customers.

We call it ECO because many Eco friendly papers are simply a bit off-white, recycled paper especially.

A nice advantage to using the ECO colours in your design or as brand colours for your customers is that they can also be printed perfectly correctly in your local newspaper - according to ISO 12647-3-2013 - to WAN-IFRA standards, which is the universal standard for CMYK printing of newspapers.

To be clear, all the ECO colours can also be printed on bright white or neutral white paper like the original SMS colours - these colours simply cover any media from newspaper to neutral white to bright white paper, web and TV, while the range of the original SMS colours is from neutral white and up and if you need to print an original SMS standard colour in your local newspaper, you have to accept that it will change visually depending on how white or how brown the paper in your local newspaper actually is.

SMS MAX (x )colours v3, sRGB format for professional brand - web and app design (free of charge)

The following colours are a version of our palette made especially for printing on white, coated substrates, web and TV.

These colours are cleaner and more vivid than our natural standard or ECO colours but the cost of that is that they can by default not be achieved in printing on uncoated paper and on ink subtractive substrates, such as cotton.

The SMS MAX colours are thus well suited for packaging applications, outdoor signage, magazine ads, web and TV but perhaps not as well suited for general brand design, where uncoated paper may be a part of what is required in the mix.

SKU: P8c or P8u: ISO certified proof according to ISO 12647-7-2016. Proof can in this case contain whatever - photographs, layout, text and graphics. In this case it is a very good idea to insert those SMS colours that are used in said layout, approx. 1,5 x 1,5 cm at least each colour along with a short description on where each colour is to be found in the layout.
It is important for designers to keep in mind that unless it is made clear where each SMS colour is within the layout, the Printer/operator is "blind" and can basically only do his best to keep the job within the normal parameters of his ISO standard and to ensure that the job is in register.

Registered users of the Spot Matching System can order any standard SMS colour from either our standard, ECO or MAX range of colours (see above), suited for printing to ISO standards, web and Television from their registered SMS colour palette(s).

In order to be considered a registered user, you need to own and be a registered user of a minimum of the P20 or P31 version of the colour palette you are ordering colours from.

For instance if you wish to order CMYK colour variations from the SMS Standard palette, you need to first buy either the sRGB or Rec. 709 version (P20) of the Standard system or optionally the P31 OFFICE version and renew the license every 12 months - which is how you can see on your screen what the colours you are ordering look like.

The price of our sRGB or Rec. 709/2020 palettes is EUR 60 pr. palette for version 4 (869 colours) and EUR 90 for version 5 (1.738 colours).

P9: SMS CMYK colour for ISO standard printing to Fogra, GRACOL/G7:                                      EUR 30 pr. colour pr. variation.

The above price (P9) is always valid for the first CMYK variation of each of your colours if you are not an SMS subscriber.

If you request the SMS BLOCK format for your colours (preferably when you order your first variation), as of second variation of your SMS colours for printing order you only have to pay the price of two colours, whether you are using 2 or 10 colours for your job:

P30:

SMS BLOCK consisting of up to 10 SMS colours:         Included is issuing of a BLOCK ID and insertion of the following relevant information: ICC profile to be used, white point and print standard.                                                                                               EUR 60 pr. SMS custom colours / SMS logo or page conversion to an SMS BLOCK

If none of the standard SMS colours is considered close enough to a target colour, we offer our customers a special service where we create a new custom SMS colour/colours, suited for printing to ISO standards, web and Television. In this case we need a copy or detailed information on the colours that should be converted to SMS.

We can optionally convert an exisiting logo to SMS colours. In this case, the logo itself is issued it's own SMS ID and can from then on be ordered for printing to Fogra or GRACOL/G7 standards for printing.

Finally we can convert an entire page (which can be a custom page set up by the designer as a part of the proposed brand identity standard with all colours and variations of colours for one brand) to SMS standards to ensure uniform appearance cross media - for CMYK printing to industry standards (Fogra or GRACOL), for web and for Television.

In all cases the colours, logo or page will receive its own SMS BLOCK ID (see www.spotmatchingsystem.com/blocks to ensure correct usage.

In this case it is important to make clear whether the new colour(s) should fit within the SMS STANDARD, SMS ECO or SMS MAX colour gamuts.

P31: SMS OFFICE: The Standard colour palette of the Spot Matching System (v4) in Excel form Preview of all 869 SMS Standard colours and HEX codes. Enables Brand Owners to select and keep track of their SMS colours and to use their SMS brand colours for in-house work for a consistent overall appearance. Subscription to the Spot Matching System

Brand Owners

Available for small and large companies and institutions, that have an official logo in colour(s),
as well as for individual product- and service brands that require colour consistency cross-media.

The SMS subscription is valid for one corporate identity / one brand only.

Brand Owners that wish to subscribe to SMS need to appoint at least one so-called "super user", who is responsible for that designers, working with the brand colours of the brand owner, will work according to instructions provided by Spot-Nordic, to ensure correct reproduction of SMS colours for each media.
The super user, who will be the technical contact on behalf of the brand owner has to be fluent in the English language and must furthermore be advanced in using the Adobe Suite.

Brand Owners are optionally allowed to hand over communications and responsibility (including super user responsibility) over their SMS brand colours to an Agency or a freelance Designer, who must be SMS READY - i.e. capable of preparing SMS jobs for all media, - see here below "Advertising Agency/Designers".

In the case, where the Brand Owner appoints an in-house Designer, the Designer (super user) must, as a condition provide Spot-Nordic with a list of Printshops that they work with and must furthermore agree to direct their print work to SMS READY Printshops and manufacturers when possible, to ensure the best possible results in printing of SMS colours. 

Spot-Nordic will contact each Printshop, inform them of the subscription and offer them to become SMS READY, if technically possible.

Spot-Nordic will inform the SMS subscriber about the status of each Printshop and Manufacturer.

Spot-Nordic will assist Brand Owners that subscribe to SMS in locating SMS READY Design Agencies/Designers and Printers if required.

Subscription includes:

• SMS CMYK version of corporate/brand colours for industry standard printing (Fogra or G7), Web and Television, Standard, ECO or MAX colours in all print variations required.
  
  Or

• Recalculation of current brand logo to SMS colours suited for visually consistent industry standard printing, for web and TV.
  Issuing of a unique SMS ID for the logo as a whole (v.s. individual SMS colours) during subscription period. In this case the designer needs to decide whether to use standard, ECO or MAX SMS colours. Included are all print variations required (Fogra or GRACOL).
  
  Or
  
  Recalculation of one page showing all brand colour variations of a brand and all colour shades intended for the brand, as imagined by the designer in their web (sRGB) version. Issuing of an SMS BLOCK ID during subscription period.
  In this case the designer needs to decide whether to use standard, ECO or MAX SMS colours. Included are all print variations required (Fogra or GRACOL).

• Web and Television version of the chosen SMS colours, SMS logo or SMS BLOCK is included.
  
  Please provide Spot-Nordic with the names of Designers/Agencies (outside of your own company) that are allowed to request SMS colour variations on your behalf. Make sure to communicate your customer ID to them, once you have subscribed.
  
  Customer ID (for invoicing) has to be included on each order of service or product.

  Support includes communicating with Printshops to confirm their printing standard as well as communicating with Advertising Agencies / Designers, responsible for layout / design of the job in question to ensure successful reproduction of SMS colours in CMYK

  In addition the following services are available:

  P21: Saving of customer's official brand identity manual in sRGB format along with all individual logos in all approved variations:  EUR 140 pr. year.
  
  NOTE: Only applicable where subscriber grants Spot-Nordic approval to send the sRGB version of the Visual Brand Identity manual and official logos and SMS colour variations listed in said visual brand identity manual to certain parties, either to anyone or, for instance, only SMS READY Printers or manufacturers as a service to ensure globally correct use of the SMS colours or SMS logos, as well as other approved variations of the logos defined by the colours of Pantone, RAL, NCS, Avery etc.
  
  Designer or brand owner may choose whether the invoice should be sent to him or to the requesting party or optionally simply request that all enquiries be forwarded directly to them or a 3rd party by email for handling.
  
  P21b: Visual Brand Identity Manual in sRGB format, Logos and other artwork listed in the Visual Brand Identity manual in all approved formats, saved by Spot-Nordic, sent by email on request:  EUR 30 pr. item (pr. Visual Brand Identity manual in PDF format or link to website, logo or other artwork).
  
  NOTE: Only one item is sent pr. email, so for instance if a Printer does not have a current version of the Visual Brand Identity manual of an SMS subscriber, the first email will contain the PDF version of the sRGB version of the Visual Brand Identity manual, which the customer should use to select which version of the logo or a certain artwork should be ordered - based on instructions in the Visual Brand Identity manual itself.
  Thus the customer will be invoiced EUR 30 for this first email and additionally EUR 30 for each ordered version of the logo or artwork.
  
  P13: New standard - or custom SMS colour pr. colour beyond 4 colours (see above): EUR 100 pr. year in any variation (added to subscription).
  Please supply a colour from the standard SMS colour palette, the Pantone Formula Guide, C or U, Pantone Colour Bridge, C or U, a CIELAB value measured under condition M1, an approved sample in sRGB format or a physical sample sent to our address.

  P14b: Closest PANTONE spot colour to a standard SMS colour for paper, plastic or textile: EUR 30 pr. colour.

P16: Rating of SMS printed colours (physical copy must be sent to our address): EUR 50 pr. job.

Before beginning work on a new job, where an SMS colour is to be used, feel free to contact sms@spot-nordic.com with information about the job, what type of job it is, what type of substrate/material and what printing standard your Printer/manufacturer uses and which CMYK icc profile is recommended.

We are happy to communicate with your Printer to establish this on your behalf.

If there are changes made to international printing standards, including Fogra and GRACol, which may affect the final CMYK composition of SMS colours, registering all print jobs with us will enable us to update ongoing print jobs globally to keep your SMS brand colours correct.

Advertising Agencies / Creative Agencies, Designers

Agencies and Graphic Designers who want to become SMS READY need to appoint at least one so-called "super user", who is responsible for the Agency/Graphic Designer working according to instructions provided by Spot-Nordic, to ensure correct reproduction of SMS colours for each media.
The super user, who will be the technical contact has to be fluent in the English language and must furthermore be knowledgeable in the use of graphics programs used by the agency.
 
The SMS READY license is valid for 12 months only and will be automatically renewed unless the Agency/Designer cancels the subscription.

Customers (Companies, Institutions or individual brands) that wish to use SMS colours for their brand need to either subscribe to SMS (see here above - Brand Owners) or at least be registered owners of the P20 colour palette used for their brand during the usage period of SMS colours as a part of a brand identity.

Agencies and Designers are only permitted to use SMS colours in work for SMS subscribers (Brand Owners, see here above) or registered owners of the respective P20 colour palette to be used - see here above - or optionally the P31 palette.

SMS READY Agencies and Designers are permitted to cover the cost of the SMS subscription of each customer or the cost of the P20 or P31 colour palette of the customer - or simply refer the customer to Spot-Nordic.

In the case where the Agency or Designer prefers to cover the fee of the customer, the name of the customer or brand has to be provided to Spot-Nordic and a copy of final designs provided to Spot-Nordic in PDF or jpg format with the respective icc profile embedded, along with a list of the SMS colours used, preferably with the SMS colour patches included within the workspace for easy identification - see www.spotmatchingsystem.com/gettingstarted.

Spot-Nordic will assist SMS READY Design Agencies and freelance Graphic Designers in locating SMS READY Printers and Manufacturers if requested and will recommend them for work that requires constant colour consistency in all media.

We urge SMS READY Agencies and Designers to send copies of their SMS designs to be used to promote the Spot Matching System and the Agency/Designer, customer and Printer(s) involved in the successful and colour consistent promotion of each brand.

  Before beginning work on a new job, where an SMS colour is to be used, feel free to contact sms@spot-nordic.com with information about the job, what type of job it is, what type of substrate/material and what printing standard your Printer/Manufacturer uses and which CMYK icc profile is recommended.
  
  Be sure to advise your Printer(s) and Manufacturer(s) about your SMS READY certification and what that means and if they themselves are interested in getting their own SMS READY certification (which is preferred of course), please ask them to contact sms@spot-nordic.com.
  
  We are furtermore happy to communicate with your Printer or Manufacturer to establish this on your behalf.
  
  For best results we recommend registration of all print jobs, including re-prints - see P17 here above in the Brand Owner section. 
  
  If there are changes made to printing standards, including Fogra and GRACol, which may affect the final CMYK composition of SMS colours, registering all print jobs with us will enable us to update ongoing print jobs globally to keep your SMS brand colours correct.

Offset printshops that buy a complete Rutherford or InkZone preset + closed loop system from Spot-Nordic are entitled a free 4 year SMS READY badge, once they have successfully printed the SMS testforms and passed each respective colour standard with a MAX dE00 of 3 or less - see here.

SMS READY Printshops can request to print or proof the complete SMS colour palette and distribute it to their customers and prospective customers in their region with their logo and contact information for promotional purposes, for quick, visual matching on press in the pressroom as well as to help designers select their SMS colours in their work.
